On the Saturday before Lent in 2017, the date is February 18 and is exactly one week before the beginning of Lent. The date changes each year and is eight weeks before Easter. Along with the obligatory wheat, breadcrumbs and red wine, cheese and eggs are distributed. Meat and cheese as well as pies and small sweets may also be included in the offerings. All these things are given in memory of our deceased loved ones, and we remember to clean the graves and light a candle on them. We don't have to litter the cemetery with food which the animals then spread in the alleys. It is enough to hand to people who happen to pass by and mention the Name of our loved one with the words "God Forgive Him". This first of the year Souls' Day is important and should be celebrated by all believers, regardless of the snow-covered graves.
